U+ Mate Guide: From Finding a Group to Chatting After Approval
Planning a trip to Korea can bring up decisions that are hard to make alone. You might want to find someone to eat with or exchange travel information with other visitors. U+ Mate is a community designed to bring people together around interests like these. Rather than signing up for a set place or schedule, start by exploring groups based on what you’d like to discuss. Meals and traveling together are examples of possible topics; check each group for its actual plans.
If you’d like to join, first look at groups created by others and decide whether their interests match yours. As you read a group’s topic, ask yourself what you’d like to ask or share there. If you want to exchange information, think through your questions in advance. If you’re interested in an activity together, consider what kind of activity you have in mind. The basic flow is to view a group and then apply to join. Applying does not mean you can immediately chat with other members, so if your travel plans require a quick answer, don’t count on having a conversation before approval.
The key sequence on U+ Mate is: view a group → apply to join → get the creator’s approval → chat. The creator approves join requests in My Page, and only then does the chat become available to approved members. If the chat does not open right after you apply, it does not necessarily mean something is wrong; check whether approval is still pending. If you’re the creator, don’t assume that creating a group starts the conversation. You also need to review and approve incoming requests in My Page.
If you’d like to start a group yourself, begin with a topic others can understand. For example, “asking and answering questions about travel in Korea” sets different expectations from “finding someone to eat with.” The creator makes a group, and participants view it and apply to join. When setting up a group, make it clear whether you want to exchange ideas or have an activity together. If no specific schedule or meetup has been decided, don’t present one as settled. Leave those details to work out in conversation after approval.
Even after the chat becomes available, distinguish the group’s topic from any actual plans. A topic like “traveling together” does not mean the destination, time, cost-sharing, or each person’s role has been agreed on. For a meal group, discuss the kind of meal you want and what each person would pay for. For an information-sharing group, clarify which experiences or questions you want to discuss. When considering an activity together, confirm that everyone understands the plans the same way. U+ Mate offers an opportunity to start a conversation; applying or being approved does not, by itself, finalize shared plans.
You don’t need an elaborate plan to begin. You can start with one travel topic you’re genuinely curious about. Explore a group someone else has created and apply to join, or create your own if you know what you’d like to discuss. Either way, remember that after you apply, the creator must approve your request in My Page before approved members can chat. Knowing this sequence helps you distinguish applying from chatting and work through what everyone expects. After discussing the details, each person can decide whether to meet or travel together.
