The 16th Gwangju Biennale

Opening on September 5, 2026, the 16th Gwangju Biennale, “You Must Change Your Life,” takes its title from the final line of a poem published by Rainer Maria Rilke in 1908. In the poem, the speaker’s way of seeing the world is transformed upon encountering a broken ancient sculpture. The exhibition explores how shifts in perspective and position can lead to the realization that we can no longer continue living as before.
